Bunert Road · Warren, Michigan

Turn off Twelve Mile.
Slow down at the flags.

You will know the place before you see the sign. Two flags on one pole, a wide green yard, and a little white hall the neighborhood has driven past since 1957.

The Stars & Stripes

Flown high,
and flown first.

Our grandparents came through Ellis Island and Detroit's train sheds with a suitcase and a trade. This flag goes up top because the country that took them in comes first. Always has.

Il Tricolore

Green, white, and red
in a Michigan breeze.

Beneath it, the flag of the old country. Sicily and Calabria, Abruzzo and the Veneto, all of it folded into one Tricolore and one lodge. It flies every day the wind allows.

The Hall

Small on the outside.
Enormous on a Saturday night.

Eighty-five chairs, a real kitchen, a dance floor that has held sixty-plus years of weddings, baptisms, retirement parties and Euchre nights. If these walls could talk, they'd argue about the sauce.

The Sign

Santa Maria Lodge.
Everyone here just says the Club.

Founded 1957 by families who wanted a place that felt like home. Members come for the pizza, the cards, the Sunday dinners, and the people who remember your name.

The Yard

Old maples.
Older friendships.

The trees were saplings when the lodge opened. Now they shade the summer bocce games and the kids who chase fireflies while the grown-ups finish the espresso.
